Matthew Akers  is an accomplished producer, director, photographer and cinematographer. 

He is currently the director and cinematographer of the HBO feature documentary film Marina Abramović The Artist is Present, about artist Marina Abramović.  The film will be released worldwide beginning in January 2012. 

He was recently the series producer and cinematographer on a National Geographic Television series about the Medical Marijuana industry in Colorado. 

He was the head producer and cinematographer on the 6-part PBS television event CIRCUS, which began airing on November 2010 on PBS and elsewhere around the world thereafter. 

Matthew was a producer and camera operator on CARRIER, the 10-part Emmy Award-winning PBS television series that premiered in April 2008.   

Matthew was a producer and camera operator on NIMROD NATION, the 8-part Peabody Award-winning documentary series that aired on Sundance Channel.  He also produced several segments for the Sundance Channel series BIG IDEAS FOR A SMALL PLANET. 

He worked as a cinematographer on the HBO documentaries BACK IN THE HOOD: GANG WAR II, HEIR TO AN EXECUTION and ELAINE STRITCH:  AT LIBERTY as well as the National Geographic Channel concert and documentary film TAN DUN:  THE MAP.  He was also one of the lead cinematographers on the Peabody and Emmy Award-winning PBS series EGG:  THE ARTS SHOW.
